Bradley Arm Canal Enhancement Scheme

A 7 month environmental enhancement scheme has seen a section of the Bradley Arm Canal become a more attractive and welcoming area. Through the programme of woodland management, pathway construction, fencing work and new planting the Bradley Arm Canal provides a much improved leisure resource for both local people and visitors to the area.
The Award winning scheme has achieved wide reaching successes through the pro-active focus by the partnership on recruiting the team locally. All team members had no previous construction or landscaping experience and were all long term unemployed.
The majority of the team went on to find employment based on the skills and experiences gained on the canal redevelopment scheme.

Bullock Construction
Chris, who progressed from the Bradley Arm Canal scheme is currently working on our Street Scape project which is a Wolverhampton wide project funded by Wolverhampton City Council. He is due to complete his first year of his Brickwork Apprenticeship at City of Wolverhampton College.
“Chris is a hardworking and dedicated individual who works well with all of the site team. We receive nothing but positive feedback on Chris's work and attitude. In the short 8 months that he has been employed with Bullock he has developed into a competent bricklayer and is always motivated to learn more.”
To sustain interest and commitment to the Bradley Arm Canal area a “Friends of the Canal” group has been established. Whilst still early days the group have a strong focus on developing the area for increased community engagement and participation. If you would like more information on the group or wish to become a member please contact us. The group are keen to hear from any community groups and schools who would like to run projects or events with a waterways theme.
